Something every T Type owner cannot do without! Seriously it's a CD containing every technical article printed in the New England T Type Register's Sacred Octagon Magazine, I think from 1964 to Dec 2004. There will be two versions, Windows or Mac and it costs $99. I ordered one last November. Hank Rippert at fairwind@carolina.rr.com is handling my copy.

Responding for Hank, it will be mailed the 14th.

This CD is so valuable that we might be seeing TD's with in-dash CD players for roadside maintenance! And if you have the NE Registry CD in it, there will be no point deductions for lack of authenticity:)

My CD don't work. everything is checked as the instruction says. I have Adobe7.0
G.J. Cenzer

Is the CD searchable? Alternatively, is there a 'table of contents' that lists issue by issues what articles are in what issues?

I ask because I have a complete TSO library, back to the very 1st issue, and I'd love just to have a reference to tell me where the articles I need are.
Stan Griffis

In Adobe Reader 7.0 if I click open file folder button I get a lsit of files that I believe represents each issue but not labeled as to wich issue each is. When I open one of the files I get a super full screen of text but no way to advance thru the pages. Maybe I have to try the CD with an older version of Adobe Reader.

Is the CD Mac or Windows?
John James

I believe the CD is supposed to be either/or Mac or Windows.First message I get is: Active content can harm your computer or disclose personal information. Are you sure that you want to allow CDs to run active content on your computer.
What you should know about active content (in blue for clicking)
Next Message: Cannot save form information. PLEASE NOTE: You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer. If you would like a copy for your records, please fill it in and print it."
Now that message is on top of what appears to be the opening page which seems to have an index but anything I click just gives me an FBI warning about copying this page is illegal.
If I launch Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 and click the open file button and open the filelist on the CD I can open a file and with the arrows cycle thru the pages but I have no option for closing/opening a different file. I have to shut down and re-open AAR 7.0 and start over.
Also I would like to not that the files I have opened so far are basically un-readable. I have a 17" flat screen monitor and am running WinXP. (computer is only 6mos. old.

Think it was mentioned that there is a PC and a Mac version on different disks?

Is it designed to open in a browser, or a PDF or ?
gordon.b.lawson '53TD

There is absolutly nothing on the disk nor the envelope which indicates the format PC/MAC.
Maybe it just is not compatable with AAR 7.0
G.J. Cenzer

Greg,

I also had trouble with Adobe reader 7.0.

I found an installation package for acrobat 5.1.0 on my computer, so I removed 7.0 and intalled 5.1.0. Worked fine, except the search function flakes out.

You might want to find a old copy of acrobat and see if it works.

Good luck,
Evan

The Mac Version is labeled TSO MACOS and is different from the PC Version.

In either version you can expand the screen view with the size buttons ( next to the block that shows % size, normally at 65%)

In the Mac version you start by clicking on index.pdf, which is a special program which then displays two lists; one is the issue by month & year, the other by tech article title. Clicking on a line brings it on screen. Click on the upper left corner to make it go away, and the index reappears.

On the Mac version, (and I assume the PC Version) this is all explained in the READ ME file.

I am using Acrobat Reader 5.0

Disk works great on computer at my office. I think it has acrobat 6.something. The machine here at home has 5.0 and 7.0, and it will not run. You get an error message "File does not begin with %pdf". Definitely something not right. George
George Butz

George, same message I'm getting on acrobat 7 computer and on acrobat 6 computer. Also on my acrobat 6 computer I get message 'cant find file for opening htm files'. I've got lot of CD's for Motorcycles, ship modeling, nuts/bolts, shop manuals, etc... but this is the only one that is giving me problems. Over my head I guess. I don't suppose there is a money back return policy either.

I received my CD-ROM and took a quick look at it. I was pleased to see that the CD-ROM started and appeared to run correctly on my computer (NT 4.0, Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.1; I'll be trying it on some other computers, too). It is clear from the postings that some people are having problems with the CD-ROM.

I did notice that there are some problems with the CD-ROM even when it appears to operate properly. For example, there are no items listed under "Electrical Equipment." I have to believe there should be some. Selecting "Special Tools," then "USEFUL SNAP-ON TOOLS" gives a listing of the original NEMGTR members. They may be "tools," but I'm not going to make that judgement.

Here's what I propose doing. I'll start a new thread with the subject "TSO CD-ROM: Computer related questions and comments." In this thread, please post questions and comments about how to make the CD-ROM operate on the computer.

I'll also start a second thread, "TSO CD-ROM: Content related comments." Please post comments such as mine above about "Electrical Equipment" and "Special Tools."

Where we aren't able to help each other resolve problems I'll contact Hank Rippert and see what assistance we can get from the company that produced the CD-ROM.

Thanks.

Guys, in case you haven't looked at the other two threads on this subject. The CD will NOT work with Acrobat 7.0, you must remove 7.0 from your computer and install nothing higher that 6.0.2. Then it works.
There is a bug in 7.0, not this disc which was designed before 7.0 was released. Take a look at the other threads......I'm still waiting for the designer to tell us why there is nothing listed under "Electrical Equipment". Maybe it was something to do with Lucas!!

Terry Sanders

There is a confirmed bug preventing the display of the Electrical Equipment category of articles. This will be remedied and an updated file available for download to replace the problem PDF file.

We will post the date and URL for downloading the update as soon as it is available - most likely within 30-45 days allowing time for any additional bug reports which might also require attention.

Also explained earlier - The TSO CD is not designed to run with Acrobat / Reader 7 since the CD was produced before 7 was released.

It is not uncommon for the first release of Acrobat to contain some major bugs that can prevent proper PDF navigation and other function. Clearly the TSO CD and many other interactive

It has been pointed out that users are automatically taken to the download page for Acrobat 7 whenever they click the link in the TSO CD to upgrade from a version of Acrobat previous to 5.05.

Instead, if you need to upgrade use this link to download and install version 6 since version 7 has widely reported bugs.
