MG TD TF 1500 - Very Rare TD on eBay?

It is my estimate that these are very rare and hard to come by? I have only seen..... well I have never seen one. eBay # ;

As usual I have no connection with seller. He has no connection with MG's

1948....not bad for a td...?Shouldn't there just be photos of cardboard boxes?
gblawson(gordon- TD27667)

With "no chassis" as noted, the car is spineless and would crumple if you sat in it. Photo looks very nice for a car with no frame.

I'm confused!
IMHO : Most "important" info on this one :
Both the seller and the bidder have "0" feedback.
I feel a 20 foot pole is needed for this listing.
10 foot is "not enough".
Is fee-bay giving an award for scarriest post these dayz?
David Sheward

Really, that is probably way worse then anything we have commented on in the recent past.... the photo just is so wrong.... Some shmuck will certainly be surprised when he finds no 'car'.....just boxes.....! and not only 'wham, bang, thank ya mamn'....but ' $500 for shipping on top of it....whew....!!!!
gblawson(gordon- TD27667)

Did I miss something on this. Unitized fiberglass body and no chassis. that is a kit car I think. Did not know MG made a fiberglass body...
Tom Maine (TD8105)

Thats why we are commenting.... the guy posts a foto of an MG TD and insinuates that that is what the buyer gets...then even mentions there is no chassis and a bunch of boxes.... So you think you are buying an mg, and you still have to go out and buy a VW and then you end up with a kit car....

Good day all. Hot as *ell here
Somehow I think Scotty, Spock and Captain Kirk from the star ship Enterprise, were involved in this 1948 TD. I think they had Scotty beam Kirk and Spock back where they got a title for their 1948 TD? Then, they had him beam them and the 1948 title forward. That is the only way to get a true 1948 TD, even in boxes.

Tom
MG's from Abingdon did not use fiberglass in their cars until the late 1990s. Then it was in the later model mgtf, not to be confused with the 1954-1955 TF- 1250 and 1500
Have a good day -John

Thats what I was getting at. I saw the picture he posted and wondered if someone took it apart or what. Sounds like a nice pig in a poke to me. John, I know that MG's did not make cars till the 90's with any glass in them. I drive a glass car, 91 Vette convert. besides my 51 TD.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

It is a VW kit car kit only. No VW. The buyer still needs a VW and to assemble it. There is a picture of a VW kit car (good idea) and a picture of a real MG TD (very very bad idea...) I like how they say it is a '48 TD. Oops.
If somone wants a VW kit it may be a good buy. The VW kits are not my cup of tea.

The only good VW kit I ever saw and owned, was a Meyer Manx body that I put on a VW frame when I was about 25. Had a lot of fun with that car but it about shook my kidneys loose. Bugs are fun But MGT's are Funner....
Tom Maine (TD8105)

Tom, MGT's are Funner? Hahaha, never heard it put that way, I like it! I think their "funner" also. (Grin).
I saw the ad in question and agree that the guy should change the ad. He might not have done the ad up that way to scam someone, but maybe give the non-knower's a glimpse of what a TD looks like. He should have use a photo of a kit TD instead and rephrased his description in the beginning stating that it was a kit car and a VW was needed to complete the build. Not all people are bad, but not thinking straight along with common sense having a way of falling short on some of us at times can make the best of us come up short on our meanings. Just trying to be nice. But, the ad should be changed! PJ

$2550 + $500 shipping.
5 bids from 2 bidders with "0" feedback.
By the time you find a donor "dub" getting close to what a few on this BB have purchased a basket case TD for. Haven't loked at them for a long time...what's the going price on an old VW these days? Might be a better investment these days to re-build the the dub instead!
David Sheward

Dave, VWs have been on the restoration come back for some time now and their price has elevated quite a bit for a good usable base car to restore. So the completed kit car using VW running gear is not going to be cheap by any means. If a guy already had a VW to use with good running gear, then it might be worth the trouble and cost if he wanted the "TD" look. Not for me! PJ

I was curious so I took a quick peek at classic vw's ...well here's a good donor ...only $10K

Guess I just don't get it (didn't "get" the $40k restoration on a Gremlin I saw a while back either)

It's too early to drink beer ....Bourbon & cornflakes anyone?
