MG TD TF 1500 - What did Santa Claus bring for your MG?

Did St. Nicholas bring you MG related toys this year?

My wife surprised me with the MG "letterman jacket" from Moss Motors and a Pendleton Motor Robe. Now I'll stay warm if she makes me sleep in the garage after spending too much time working on the car!

What did you get?
Evan Ford - TD 27621

The TD! Picked it up Thur. and drove it home. Nice. Traded it for a Magnette, a few thousand and a restoration I'll do on another tired TD. Santa also ordered a new top - side curtains - tire cover and a luggage rack. Wonderful Christmas - I've been waiting 48 years for this present.

A really cool solar battery charger panel. I think this came from Amazon. If you are fortunate to have any windows or skylights in your garage, as I do, this gadget works really well. The leads clip onto the battery post and panel puts out 1.6 volts (checked with meter) with the winter sun shining on it. It acts like a trickle charger. This is hooked up to my B at this time as its hard to get the batteries in/out or disconected.
Great item if you have to store car outside at the airport using airport transfers tonbridge for a few days in the winter. It also comes with a cig. lighter connection.

So far so good

Those solar battery chargers are really neat... they come in three different sizes and are on display in Canadian Tire stores.... Now, if the barn only had a window.....

How long does it take to light your cigarette off this solar charger? What will they think of next? Will it run a George Forman? John

Lazarus received a Holcombe Armature kit and an NOS Doretti badge bar to fill up the holes put into the front wings sime 50 years ago. Plus a beautiful (but cool) day that allowed my daughter and future son-in-law a chance to drive Lazarus. I now have their blessing to drive him across the country for their wedding using wedding cars tonbridge next July.

I received a badge bar and am debating drilling some holes to install it.

Today I received a receiver hitch from a fellow enthusiast. Its purpose is to carry a 2-bike rack but will also work on our vintage Apache tent-top trailer. I had it bolted on the car in 1 hour, most of that time spent removing rear bumper, spare and splash apron. It is light weight but adequate to the job. This is not his business so I won't give out his name except 'Santa'.

I just recently acquired my first-ever MG TF. When I laid eyes on it it said in a faint voice, "Please, please restore me, please!" For Christmas #3 Son gave me a Breumels banjo steering wheel and adapter hub for the poor soul. This is going to be one happy little TF!

Driving in our TC & TF is like having Christmas throughout the year. Santa did not get anything for the T's but did come through with an Airline Coupe for my lovely wife.

G'day
My Christmas present was Picking up my batch of parts sent away for re chroming.after waiting over twelve weeks I was getting quite frustrated. On picking up my parts the Guy sheepishly brought out my radiator shell.I nearly had a heart attack on the spot, the thing was and still is brass coloured with a note saying unable to chrome plate, with a botched repair attempt evident. After much swearing at this chap and asking why they stripped it in the first instance if there was any doubt. So my Christmas was spent thinking of trying the impossible and finding a replacement, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Nigel

Gentlemen,
Santa said that since I bought two cars this year, the TF being one of them, and having spent many untotalled receipts for upgrades, acessories and parts, that it would be naughty to expect anything more car related. Got a very big chainsaw instead.
I take heart in the fact that a new year is just days away, and Santa will be making a new list.

Nigel,

Don't know what is wrong with the rad surround but it is possible to repair with soft solder. The trick is to first polish the brass with a power buff and then do your soldering. You can flatten off any bulges in the solder with a piece of fine emery paper on a small rubber pad - I have used one of the erasers used for removing pencil lines. You then need to polish the brass and solder in the repaired area using brasso and a cloth backed by your rubber block. Do not use a power buff - this preferentially removes the solder causing ripples. You must then get your plater to put a very heavy coat of copper on the shell before nickel and chrome. If this fails Andy King in the UK sells brand new shells - they are superb but cost about £500.

Happy hogmanay to all

My TD received a pair of horns--not the Texas bovine variety for the grill, but the kind that go "beep".

I got a silver hip flask full of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Wiskey. ( I don't know where the rest of the bottle went ?) Oh yes the flask has the MG logo on it.
Also a nice tan cap and nice blue shirt with an embroidered picture of a TD the same color as our car .
And then new underware and socks per the norm.-no logo on the underware or socks unless Haines counts.

Why does an old MG need new socks and underwear?
