MG TD TF 1500 - what part is this?

Can you identify this special nut?

It has a fine inch thread and could come off of a Y-type or TD, but maybe something completely different.

Captive nuts like that were on the kick panel below the fire wall, of my TD
I remember making a few.
The threads were BSF though.

They are used to secure the bell housing cover to the kick panel

Wow, that was quick! Captive nuts with BSF threads it is then.

Thanks a lot.

This is the one that secures the kick panel to the floor. Pic by Matthew Majilton. I just purchased 4 from FTFU. Cheers

Believe it or not, they were in use on my '30 Model A Ford.

Now, Rivnuts serve the same purpose for light fastening needs, like mounting a fuel pump, cable/brake lines clamped to a frame rail, etc. I used a lot of them when building my hot rod.
