MG TD TF 1500 - Whats your axle look like before it broke

This one is out of the rear end a local fellow gave me. Looks like its one good pop in reverse from snapping.

LaVerne

Looks about right ...cause here is what it looks like after a good pop!

LaVerne, what a beautiful picture. That driver really had a perfect gutfeel when to stop. He must be doing terrific in casino's.

When I was first driving I wanted to burn rubber in my Sprite like guys with the 396 Chevelles and the boss Mustangs. Wind her up and slide my foot off the clutch. Think I snapped about three axles before I grew up. I would have to drive the spline out of the pumpkin with a drift. The spline would have about a quarter turn corkscrew twist shape it would take after I pounded it out. Hard to believe that it came out of the straight teeth of the spider gear.

I wish I would have kept my old axle, It was worse than that. there was approx 1/16 of an inch of spiles left when I replaced it. it was not a pretty site.

You "grew up" faster than me!
2 years ago went to British car show ...on the way home found myself in the middle of "Good-Guys Hot Rod Show" burnouts on RT161. Sitting at a light next to somekind of 9 million HP Nova gunning his engine. Wife looked at me and said "don't you dare" .
Laid rubber and got him off the line (for about 6 feet). Got a standing ovation from spectators. Above pic was from backing the car out of garage the next day. Worth it!

My High school Auto shop project was to modify a 1962 CJ Willey's Jeep. Well, modify is accurate. We put in a Ford 390 with a T10 4 speed. This jeep was geared so low that I broke three axles in the firt two weeks. Added a Warn overdrive and some moderately expensive dragster axles front and rear. After that, we had to replace the drive shafts with beefed up ones.

Once those bugs were worked out, I could smoke all 4 tires or, with a drop in the rear tire pressure, pull the front end off the ground. I did that in downtown San Antonio one night. Got stopped by a cop who just wanted to see what I had under the hood. He let me off with a warning.

Here is the motor.

Similar story Bruce.

In my case it was a 1947 CJ-2A. It used to have a 90 CI FH-4. My son and I droped a Buick V-6. The rear ends was and early DANA-42 (not 44). We kept shearing the bolts on the 5.22 ring gears. This would take out the cluster gear in the transmission. After 3 cluster gears we got a DANA-44. We also had to get custom drive shafts.

The CJ-2 is on its third Buick V-6 now.

As with yours it would spinn all 4 wheels.
