MG TD TF 1500 - Wheel Cover Medallion

Good day all:

I am presently awaiting the return of my newly painted rims and have always wondered about the Wheel Cover (Nave Plate--Hub Cap--whatever) Medallion, # AAA 2201.

I have seen a variety of medallions the background colours, for which, mirror the body colour.

Generally, however; most have been painted MGee red.

My car is far from the "concours d'élégance" class, and in my case the colour query is not of the essence.

But, if possible, I would like either a group consensus or even a definitive answer as to whether red was or was not, the only colour the Factory used. Or, has it over the years, just been "sort of" accepted as being right ?

Most of them I have seen are red or nothing. Dont know what the factory did.

All mine are black, don't know what the original color was, I have asked the same question previously but did not receive an answer. Good luck.

When I bought my TD in 1962, all the hubcap medallions had a faded red background. Other seemingly original cars back in those days were the same as I remember.

My understanding was that the TD medallions were red, with the exception of the late MarkII with the bonnet badge and big spare wheel badge, which were black.

However this is my memory and perhaps it will provoke a better founded response from those with access to greate5r originality!

Good day Chaps:

The red colour seems to have it, so I shall set to work with my wee tin of red enamel and very fine bristle brush.

Thanks to all responders.

You can save a lot of time and get a very good finish by just spray painting the whole face of medallion, lettering and all. Allow it to dry thoroughly and then buff up on a flat surface with medium, then fine, sandpaper, or even in your hand with wire wool. That will remove the paint from the face of the lettering but leave the background fully coated.

It worked fine for me
