Triumph TR6 - Volts

So far so...so so with the new TW...anyway as I was driving it tonight I noticed the voltmeter at 11 or so volts (usally reads around 13 to 14) The last time this happened I cleaned and re attached to connectors at the Alt and all was well...when I disconnected the Alt while running nothing changed and the voltmeter stayed at 11 volts...I'm suspecting the Alt...anything else I should check.

Also I've a good miss show up between 3rd and 4th (more like a stumble under acceleration) wasen't there before...any ideas there.

Did you try the cleaning the contacts again this time?

Make sure the alternator is getting voltage to the alternator from the ignition switch. Is your ignition warning light on? If not bulb may be burned out or faulty wiring from the ignition switch to the alternator - this appears to break the 12 volts to the alternator No voltage to the alternator- no charge from the alternator.

Is the stumble at a specific RPM everytime or regardless of RPM you get a stumble from shifting 3rd to 4th?

I really never saw the igniton light on BUT that would be a tale, tale the alt was bad. I took the Alt to a local/reputable auto electric shop and he put it on the bench with no out put from the alt. I opted to order the 55amp Bosch Ford Fiesta unit from the parts store, should be in tomorrow. I'll look further into the stumble after I get the Alt in and the car up and running.

I just went out and pluged in the old Alt and turned the key and the ignition light does come on so at least I know that circuit works.

Got the ford fiesta alt (55 amp bosch style)....CASE TOO BIG...the right plugs etc BUT the case IS slightly bigger then the stock alt and woiuld require a longer belt and longer top bracket. Took it back, no time or patients right now for it. Will order a stock beck/arnley rebuild.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO KEEP LOGGED IN HERE? IT ALL THE SUDDEN MAKES ME LOG IN EACH TIME...I CAN'T FIND THE PROMPT TO STAY LOGGED IN. THANKS

Then you got the wrong one JT. You need the Bosch unit
DON KELLY

Got the right one, Bosch, 55 amp, 1980 ford fiesta, A/C rear defrost...triple spade connector same connections as the lucas unit. Anyways it went back and a stock 43 amp TR6 unit is on its way.

JT, Don't know why it didn't fit. Is yours an early car?
There are quite a few out there. In fact there is one on a car in Boise [ ;) ]in some NOBS car that used to be in mine so I know they fit.
DON KELLY

JT,
The correct Bosch alternator bolts in. NO modification required. Bolts up, same belt, plugs in. I swapped mine over in less than 15 minutes, and it was the unit I bought from the less than eloquent Mr. Kelly (nanner, nanner) I can shoot you a picture if you wish. Oh....and hi, Don!

Got my new (rebuilt) today...lucas rear cover, fan and pulley came with...works a champ and core charge was only $1 so I get to keep mine and I'll re-brush it and have it as a spare.
